Daniele Spera (66) was a former “ZiB” presenter and foreign correspondent. He then led the Jewish Museum in Vienna as director for twelve years. An uncle of his family was killed in a terrorist attack in Israel on October 7. With regard to today’s Islamists, Spera does not shy away from comparisons with the Nazis – and offers a stern warning to European politics.
“As we know from the reports, the Nazis at least tried to hide their crimes, and Hamas is proud of it,” Spera told Chron. She is sharply critical of the EU’s increased payments to the Gaza Strip. “Instead of making it the Singapore of the Middle East, they built a tunnel system and even destroyed water pipes left by Israel in order to use the pipes to make explosive devices.”
Europe’s wrong decisions in dealing with the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas are primarily dangerous for the continent itself. Spera addresses European decision makers in harsh words: “If politicians do not react quickly, Europe will be ruined. Israel is just the beginning. Hamas is striving for an Islamic world empire; Supporters of its ideology are active in many countries around the world.
Global anti-Semitism is worrying. “Even at American elite universities there are demonstrations.”
