Vienna’s ÖVP leader Karl Mahrer expresses a similar sentiment: “Today’s blockade of Vienna’s city entrances signals a new escalation level in the sabotage actions of climate protesters,” Mahrer said. “It cannot be that commuters who rely on their cars to get to work, school or even to the doctor should be held hostage!”
Today’s vandalism at the city’s entrances once again reflects the growing threat of extremism due to growing radicalization within the climate protection movement. Maherer further said, “Actions like this are resulting in the former climate movement moving towards extremism.”
