The very early onset of winter obviously comes as a surprise to climate fanatics and activists. In any case, heavy snowfall doesn’t fit the story of the wettest year. What happened on Friday at Vorarlberg was certainly something special. More than 50 cm of new snowfall was reported in Lech in just 12 hours. Of course, such a pile of snow is not without danger.
Due to the high risk of avalanche, the connecting road between Lech and Warth was closed. It is not yet possible to predict how long this measure will remain in place. The Austrian Severe Weather Center has warned that there will be more snowfall in the coming hours. The low is now moving eastwards.
