Chechen citizen Islam Y. (35) Stein was a high-risk inmate at the prison. He was able to fly on November 14 during a doctor’s appointment at the Krems State Hospital – eXXpress reported.
Late Friday evening, after it had already been cleared by the public prosecutor’s office, police released a photo of the prisoner who escaped from prison. Police are appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of Islam Y.
Islam Y had complained of – or possibly feigned – knee pain. After this Islam Y was taken for MRI scan. There he took the opportunity to escape from his guards. Islam Y is one of three prisoners who recently escaped from Lower Austria and is considered the most dangerous of them.
The Chechen was sentenced to a long prison sentence for aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm. He would have had to serve nine more years of imprisonment. He is not only an experienced MMA cagefighter but is also well connected in the Islamist scene. The Constitutional Protection Office was investigating him.
Despite a massive search operation involving more than 200 police officers in the surrounding areas, including vineyards and forests in Krems and Wachau, Islam Y has so far not been caught. It is believed that he may have received help from comrades and was taken to the Chechen community in St. Pölten or Vienna.
The two other escaped prisoners are an Afghan teenager (16) from Gerasdorf, who taunted his followers on social media, and an inmate from Schwarzau prison who escaped from Wiener Neustadt hospital after the guards were removed. The police have now also presented Afghani’s mugshot.
