A letter written 21 years ago by terrorist Prince Osama Bin Laden is currently going viral on TikTok. Countless users applauded the Al Qaeda founder in the video and agreed with his openly anti-Semitic text.
A year after 9/11, bin Laden blamed Israel’s existence for his terrorist attack, which took 3,000 lives. The Guardian published his letter, which disappeared from the British newspaper’s front page on November 15 after 21 years. The writing suddenly became a hit on social media. The text was removed because it was currently circulating on social media without “its original context”, a spokesperson for the newspaper said.
The hashtag #LetterToAmerica has been used more than four million times on TikTok, often in addition to #freepalestine. One user said the letter changed her view of the world: “Just reading it, it opened my eyes,” says a young black woman who calls herself Kiana Leroux. Others said: What the then head of Al Qaeda said was absolutely correct. Another 25-year-old user explained: “We’ve been lied to our whole lives. I remember seeing people celebrating when Osama was found and killed. I was a kid and it confused me. This still confuses me to this day. The world deserves better than what this country has done to them.”
Osama bin Laden’s letter used openly anti-Semitic language. It justifies the 9/11 attacks and blames them on the Jewish people. It speaks of “destructive Jewish control of capital”. And: “You continue to support the repressive Israelis in our occupation of Palestine in response to the pressure of the Jewish lobby on your government with enormous financial resources.”
Osama bin Laden demanded: “You must implement a roadmap that gives us back all Palestinian land from the sea to the river. This is an Islamic country.” Now “the United States will pay the price of its arrogance with the blood and money of Christians.”
