In a very short time, a total of three prisoners tricked prison guards in Lower Austria. First of all, an Afghan (16) and a Chechen (35) managed to escape – eXXpress reported. As it became known later (!), last week a prison inmate escaped. The Ministry of Justice confirmed the related report of “Courier”.
Since then, there has been general surprise: it is not just the ease with which the three prisoners managed to escape – always while on their way to hospital – that is not surprising. Many people are now asking themselves where is the public search? Although at least one of the three prisoners is considered extremely dangerous, no mugshots are available. Executive branch insiders shake their heads at the chaotic conditions at the Justice Department.
Michael Schneidlitz, Secretary General of the FPÖ, sharply criticized: “What is needed again is a real penal system for real criminals, instead of a prison system for idiots and a crazy prison system, which then leads to such excesses.” Justice Minister Alma Zadik (Greens) – and with her the entire federal government – was “simply ready to resign”.
The case of the Chechen who escaped while in hospital on Tuesday evening is particularly explosive. He is serving several years in prison for aggravated robbery and Islamic tendencies. According to the executive’s report, the migrant was convicted of, among other things, membership in a terrorist organization.
The convicted criminal was held in the increased security department of Krems-Stein prison. As Lower Austria State Police confirmed to eXXpress, the man is still on the run. Before his imprisonment, he also participated in mixed martial arts fights, making the manhunt even more dangerous. The Chechen was taken to the nearby University Hospital for an MRI of the knee. But his injury does not seem very serious. In a moment of carelessness, he ran away from his captor.
A prisoner from Schwarzau Women’s Prison also managed to escape from the hospital. He was admitted to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital due to a serious illness. It is said that for this reason the guard has been removed. But the woman was not so ill after all: she was able to leave immediately.
Shortly after, an Afghan man managed to escape from this very clinic and fooled the judiciary with photos of his escape on Instagram.
Schendlitz speaks of “leftists embracing executions” in Austrian prisons under Justice Minister Zadik. “Not only can Islamists communicate unhindered by telephone in prisons and organize their terrorist activities, but it should also be easy for them to escape and disappear, never to be seen again. “
Justice Minister Zadik should also comment on how so many cell phone videos from prisons could be circulated on social media platforms. Afghan’s case is “a clear proof that the minister has nothing under his control and he cannot even enforce simple rules like a ban on cell phones in prisons.”
The Justice Department responded by directing that “medical escorts will be conducted only under special safety precautions until further notice,” it said in a statement. The migration will be “continuously assessed”
