A Barcelona court on Tuesday formally charged Dani Alves with sexual aggression against a young woman. The regional court made this announcement after completing almost ten months of investigation. The newspaper “La Vanguardia” also reported. A spokesperson for the regional court in Barcelona confirmed this information upon request. There is no date for the trial yet.
Alves faces up to twelve years in prison in Spain. The former Barcelona professional has been in custody in the Catalan metropolis since January. The 126-time national player’s ex-wife and manager and their two children live in Barcelona.
A woman (23) informed Alves. She accused the Brazilian of forcing her to have sex at a Barcelona nightclub on December 20. The 126-time Brazil international is said to have put his hand inside the woman’s underwear. Then he called for help. His friends alerted the club’s security staff. The woman was then examined more closely in a hospital in the Catalan capital. Alves was later informed. Alves himself denied the allegations. The three-time Champions League winner said he was only there for a short time and nothing happened. Alves’ friends also denied the incident, which is said to have occurred on the night of 30 to 31 December.

Alves was arrested on 20 January during a visit to Catalonia. Initially, as mentioned earlier, the football professional denied any sexual contact with the woman. The Brazilian defender is considered an icon at FC Barcelona. He played 408 games for the Catalans. During his active career he also played for FC Sevilla, São Paulo and Paris Saint-Germain.
