Against “predatory capitalism”, against hyperinflation in Austria, against government inaction: On Saturday, several speakers in the SPÖ federal party once again spoke out against “excess profits” and the extremely unfair market economy. Comrades declared that only the Social Democrats would oppose it as soon as permission was granted.
But as the saying goes: preach water, preach wine. Because the prices will increase again in our own party’s conference. Frankfurters with mustard, horseradish and stuffing cost an incredible 6 euros. For Lebarkas rolls you have to dig even deeper into your pocket: they cost 6.50 euros (!).
You won’t find prices like these at a sausage stand, even in a time of record inflation.
For comparison: for example, at the famous LEO sausage stand of the Döblinger Belt in Vienna, a pair of frankfurters with mustard and stuffing costs 3.70 euros! Even for a “spicy Käsekrainer” you have to pay “only” 4.80 euros. A Lebarkas roll costs 2.90 euros, less than half the price of a SpO federal party conference.
Prices are similar at other Viennese sausage stands, such as Kaiser’s Wiener Wurstelstand on Favoritenstreet.
The fact that for a simple fare in the SPO you have to dig deep into your pockets did not go unnoticed by the visiting representatives. Many people walked into McDonald’s in anger.

We learn: The fight on the stage is against capitalism. But when it comes to their own bellies, comrades are more likely to find what they are looking for in the free market than in their party conference.
