The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel’s history, carried out by militants of the Islamist Hamas and other extremist Palestinian organizations in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip on October 7.
The terrorist organization Hezbollah is considered Iran’s most important non-state ally and is part of the self-proclaimed “Axis of Resistance”, a front of militias that seeks to eliminate Israel, Iran’s arch enemy. There have been repeated clashes between Israeli forces and Shia militias on the border between Israel and Lebanon since the beginning of the Gaza War. There had already been deaths on both sides.
Nasrallah was more critical of Arab and Islamic states. Referring to the border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, he said, “Can’t 57 Arab and Muslim countries open the Rafah crossing?”
