Still very high inflation, criticism of EU policies, accelerated loan guidelines that are also hurting Austrians and the construction industry, and immigration – these are the topics that Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) discussed with eXXpress . Editor-in-Chief Richard Schmidt speaks in the current interview.
Thomas Stelzer also speaks candidly about the current state of asylum policy: “Many people are very dissatisfied with it. The Austrians have overcome major challenges – but now a solution must finally be found. The state governor also criticizes the political leadership in Brussels: “There is a lot of talk in the EU, but very little resolution. We cannot put pressure on our society.”
In a still tense immigration situation, the EU must now finally act: “There must be consistent controls at the EU’s external border – and asylum procedures must be in place there so that it is immediately clear who has no chance,” says Stelzer. He has shelter and status.”
The Upper Austrian governor would like to introduce changes to the existing rules in the Financial Market Supervisory Authority’s loan guidelines: “The current requirements not only harm everyone who wants to build their own home, but also our entire construction industry.” It should be left to the banks to decide to whom to give loans – they too must know their customers well.
