Of course: Homosexuality remains a sin for the Pope. After all, the Catholic Church defines marriage as “the union between one man and one woman.” A relationship that must be open to the transmission of life.
However, the Holy See surprised the Brazilian bishop with his answer to the question. There, Francis promised to open more doors for believers in the LGBTQ community.
According to the Vatican, transgender people can generally be baptized in the Catholic Church. Under no circumstances should such baptisms lead to confusion or scandal. Children of same-sex couples, whether adopted or born through surrogacy, may also receive the sacrament of baptism. But there must be a “reasonable expectation” that the children will be raised in the Catholic faith.
