Pablo Picasso’s 1932 painting “Femme à la Montre” (“Woman with a Clock”) was auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York for more than $139 million (about 130 million euros). The work, which went to an anonymous bidder, achieved the highest price at an art auction this year.
The painting previously belonged to Emily Fisher Landau, a wealthy New Yorker who died this year at the age of 102. According to Sotheby’s, his collection is expected to fetch approximately $400 million.
This makes it Picasso’s second most expensive painting. In the 2015 auction of Les Dames d’Alger (Version ‘O’) at Christie’s New York, it sold for an astonishing $179 million.
