Video team of climate activists is filming everything: USA retired lawyer and university professor shot dead two climate protesters in Panama in front of dozens of witnesses.
Kenneth Darlington, 77, was arrested a short time later and taken into custody after a brief hearing before a judge in the city of La Espiga. Eliaser Pliset, the attorney for the two victims, both teachers, said Darlington will be charged with murder and illegal possession of a weapon.
Protesters have been protesting for three weeks against the Panamanian government’s agreement with a Canadian company to operate Central America’s largest open-pit copper mine for at least the next 20 years. The mine is located in an ecologically sensitive area. Kenneth Darlington, who lived in Panama City’s exclusive Patilla neighborhood, reportedly told other passengers in the car as he passed out, “This ends today.”
