The knife murder in Vienna shocked the whole of Austria: On April 20, 2023, an Algerian (31) was stabbed to death at the JägerstraSe subway station in Vienna’s 20th district (Brigitenau). During the immediate search an Algerian (24) was arrested: he tried to flee the crime scene – he jumped into the Danube Canal. Police pulled him out of the water and the man has since been in custody. Other people involved managed to escape.
But now another suspect has been caught, Nina Buseck, a spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
Two arrests were made in this criminal case on May 3. 450 grams of marijuana and approximately 1.2 kilograms of cannabis resin were seized in the apartments of a 29-year-old and 34-year-old Algerian. During the criminal investigation, a link to a knife murder was established. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating the three men on suspicion of murder.
According to the Crown report, the suspect now arrested will soon be taken into custody at the Vienna-Josefstadt Prison. The extradition process is already underway, the handover has already been approved, and the man is expected to be transferred to Vienna shortly.
