The Vienna public prosecutor’s office has filed charges against a 17-year-old IS supporter of terrorist organization and attempted grievous bodily harm. His trial will start from November 27. At the end of January 2023, the same court sentenced the boy to only 21 months of partial imprisonment. He worked as a propagandist for the radical Islamic terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS).
Since October 2021, the boy had shown IS videos containing executions and fighting scenes to classmates at his school. He scratched the letters IS with a knife on a school book for one of his classmates. He shared relevant propaganda materials on his cell phone and approved of the terrorist attack in Vienna by saying in a relevant chat group that he hoped the attacker would be “accepted by Allah.” On 12 November 2021, police action also took place at the boy’s school. He went to class with a 24 cm long butterfly knife, opened it and presented it to his classmates.
Shortly after the trial at the beginning of the year, in which seven months, or one third of the sentence imposed on him, were sentenced without any conditions, the boy was released in keeping with his pre-trial detention. He had been in prison since early August 2022 due to the risk of committing a crime, as he had repeatedly visited with IS people carrying a knife in the weeks before his arrest. He also spray-painted “Islamic State” and an IS banner in large letters on a pillar of the Brigittenau Bridge.
In the decision, the court directed the young IS supporter to undergo a de-radicalization program. The 17-year-old agreed to this, but apparently did not keep his word. According to the new indictment, which is now legally binding, he, together with an IS supporter, in April – just three months after his conviction – once again distributed relevant propaganda material, including advertising brochures for IS. Were. And recruitment videos.
