In a since-deleted post, he jokingly wrote, ‘Many people have a high level of education written on their faces.’ This statement drew strong reactions – especially from the FPEO and its supporters.
Two days later, Bankhofer publicly apologized. In a Twitter statement he wrote: “I posted a tweet last Sunday in which I widely defamed visitors to an FPO event. I deleted this tweet shortly after and want to unreservedly apologize for this ill-advised statement!
Vienna’s FPÖ leader Dominik Knapp reacted to the scandal tweet with sharp criticism of the ORF leadership and demanded an immediate statement from ORF Director General Roland Weissmann. Knapp described the statement as “arrogance” and demanded consequences for the moderator’s behavior.
However, ORF management has not yet given any official response. This silence causes many to shake their heads – and once again raises the question: How serious and honest are ORF’s staff, who are truly committed to neutrality?
