From today, September 28 until the end of October, Lidl is reducing the amount of VAT on the prices of 100 products. This means consumers get 10% to 20% off key staples like rolls, butter, bananas, milk, mince, flour, sugar, oil and more, Lidl announced in a press release.
Increased costs due to inflation have placed a huge burden on many families’ budgets – and Lidl wants to set an example in these difficult times.
The discounter is calling for VAT to be temporarily suspended on basic food items to ease the burden on all consumers.
Alessandro Wolf, CEO of Lidl Austria, explains: “The temporary suspension of VAT on core food items will be passed on to customers immediately and in full. This measure does not require complex administration and can be implemented quickly. We are ready for this.”
