For Lower Austrian Deputy Governor (FPÖ) Udo Landbauer, the asylum invasion on Lampedusa shows one thing above all: the EU has learned nothing since 2015. Without worrying about infringement proceedings by the EU, we simply have to turn away all those who cross our national border illegally, Landbauer said in a TV conversation with eXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmidt Was.
Landbauer considers the fact that the borders cannot be adequately protected against illegal migrants to be a “cheap excuse”, as was claimed during the Feyman era: to this day he talks about migrants climbing mountain ranges. I don’t know anything. “You know which areas need to be secured.”
Furthermore, Austria and Germany would have to “close the haven of milk and honey” and eliminate “excessive social benefits” for it. Smugglers and people being dragged should be punished. Hungary, which registered only 40 asylum applications last year, shows that it is possible to get it under control: “If you want, it will be possible. Hungary takes care of its people. That doesn’t happen here.” At the EU level, the Eurocrats have to vote.
The liberal politician also sharply criticized the government in view of the inflation crisis: No one should be persuaded that a CO2 tax would lead to hyperinflation even further. According to ÖAMTC, the CO2 tax has increased the price of fuel by nine cents so far, with the upcoming increase expected to increase another four cents. The Greens created ideology-driven politics “without regard to the harm to citizens”.
The People’s Party would do well to listen to the advice of Lower Austrian Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), who has spoken out clearly against further increases in the CO2 tax. “The ÖVP in Vienna appears to be resistant to advice, very out of touch with people’s concerns.”
