The knife murder in Vienna shocked the whole of Austria. On April 20, 2023, an Algerian was found stabbed to death at the JägerstraSe subway station in Vienna’s 20th district (Brigitenau). The case initially attracted a lot of media attention, but has subsided recently. Five months and a day later there has still been no trace of him – it is not known whether the only suspect arrested so far has given any statement.
While police said in July that “a lot of information has been obtained,” they “cannot be shared with the public.” This can mean two things: These “findings” are promising and should be kept secret for the time being for investigative reasons, otherwise they are useless.
In any case, knife murderers are roaming freely – whether, as is suspected, in France or North Africa or still in Austria, is not known. “I’m really worried that there’s a knife-wielding killer roaming around my neighborhood. Unlikely – but not impossible unless the killer or killers are found,” writes one ex-user online.
