“In my view, punishments should reflect the values of the society. I hope that the decision to double and triple the punishment will be carefully implemented,” Plakolm said with this clear declaration on the large eXXpress petition. Now the turquoise-green federal government has agreed to toughen the punishment.
Following the successful petition, the young State Secretary is now the guest of eXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmidt. “With the agreement, we hope that the difference now made is that someone who leaves the court as a convicted sex offender will no longer leave the court as a free man,” Placolum emphasizes.
Placolm added, “When it comes to depicting child abuse we have doubled the penalties, and in some cases even tripled them.” She insists: “And what was particularly important to me is something I have been pushing for for a year and a half: restrictions on businesses and activities being expanded. So that people who abuse children and young people are never allowed to come near them again and are never allowed to work for them again.”
