When asked, Vienna police told eXXpress that an investigation has been launched against the 19-year-old suspect. He was identified as a “citizen of the Russian Federation”. Police have not yet been able to confirm the exact origins of whether the man is Chechen or not. Another suspect remains unidentified at this time. Both are being investigated on suspicion of causing physical harm.
On Monday, September 11, a group of youths attacked two girls in Handelsky, in the 20th district. Since the face of one of the two girls (17) was exposed, the attackers spit on her face. He retaliated, punching her several times in the face and knocking her to the ground. Her friend was wearing a headscarf – and so the attackers saved her.
According to police information, the perpetrator and the victim knew each other: the 19-year-old perpetrator is therefore a casual acquaintance. He had contacted the girl on social media and allegedly exposed her on Instagram to expose the photographs.
The trial against Chechen moral protectors took place in Vienna in 2021. Several men shared information in Telegram groups about girls who seemed “too Western”. They exposed him and terrorized him. They were especially cruel towards those who refused to wear head scarves.
