Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) announced two weeks ago: 1.9 million new, adapted vaccine doses will be available to Austrians this year. There are a total of 17 million vaccine doses in stock.
A current OGM survey by “Courier” now reveals the extent of this vaccine’s waste. This year only 26 percent of the population wants to get vaccinated.
You don’t need to be a genius at math to realize that something is going very wrong here: Austria has already had to throw away more than ten million vaccine doses (over 200 million euros in tax money) in the trash (eXXpress report). After expensive vaccination campaigns and renewed Corona panic, skepticism about vaccination is increasing among the population.
According to the survey, the over-50 age group shows the greatest willingness to get vaccinated: 35 percent of them plan to get the free vaccine. In contrast, the willingness to get vaccinated among those under 30 is only 17 percent.
In terms of political preferences, it can be seen that the highest desire for vaccination is among declared Green voters – at 40 percent. SPO voters came in second place with 39 percent, followed by ÖVP voters at 37 percent and Neos voters at 20 percent. In contrast, only 9 percent of FPO voters say they want to get vaccinated this year.
