Behind the protests is the global environment and climate lobby comprising 780 organizations – including Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Friends of the Earth (FOE).
In Austria, the climate movement “Fridays for Future” (FFF) has called for a so-called “global climate strike”. According to the organization, the demonstrations are organized by a broad coalition of NGOs and civil society groups in the “Climate Protest Alliance”.
Participants also include far-left organizations such as the extremist climate group “Last Generation” and “Grandmas Against the Right”. Members of the far left Antifa will also take part in the demonstration.
The motto of the action in the federal capital from Friday afternoon is: “Global climate strike in Vienna – a future for all!” Friday’s protests are supported by many organizations, artists and scientists. Eleven demonstrations will take place across Austria, the largest of which is again expected to take place in Vienna. The start will take place at 12:00 noon at Wien-Mitte train station, with the final rally planned for 4:00 pm at HeldenPlatz. Students in Vienna are also said to be lured to the demo “as part of a school-related programme” (eXXpress reports). Organizers expect thousands of participants.
