After drone debris was found on Romanian territory, construction began on nine-meter-long air raid shelters on the border with Ukraine. The Romanian Defense Ministry announced this. The army has begun building two concrete bunkers in the Romanian village of Plauru, 500 meters away, opposite the Ukrainian Danube port of Izmail. About 50 soldiers are involved in this work and then the bunkers will be handed over to the local authorities. It said the buildings, which are two meters wide and one and a half meters high, are intended to “protect the population”.
Bucharest also wrote to Moscow. Romanian media quoted a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “State Secretary for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota urged the Russian side to stop actions against the Ukrainian population and infrastructure, including those that in any way target Romanian citizens. “We jeopardize the security of the region. The region will be in danger.”
Romania’s Air Force found drone debris within a radius of several dozen meters near the villages of Victoria and Nufaru on Wednesday, after residents of the Danube Delta alerted civil defense. These are approximately 14 kilometers as the crow flies from the Ukrainian border on the Sfantu Gheorghe branch of the Danube.
