In a time of record inflation, many Europeans will have to save – but not at Brussels levels. Some people here give themselves a lot of comfort with tax payers money. A watch expert has now been able to identify some of the watches Charles Michel likes to wear, according to news website “Brussels Signal”.
These included a Rolex whose value the expert was unable to estimate, and another timepiece he identified as an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Its price should be between the remarkable 15,000 and 25,000 Euros (!!). The expert underlined that “this is a ‘minimum assessment’. The watch is expected to cost close to €50,000, although some Royal Oak models are even more expensive.
The President of the European Union was recently seen buying an 18-karat yellow gold Ellipse Jumbo watch worth 22,000 Euros, which was in excellent condition. The “Brussels Signal” had learned of this and had therefore become aware of Michel’s expensive needs: “High-ranking Eurocrats frequented the watch shops in the European capital, a store of vintage watches (made before 1990, version) reporting that he was looking for a particular watch.”
A source said Michele had inquired about an antique, which was made by leading luxury watch maker Patek Philippe in the 1970s. It was an Ellipse jumbo model made of 18-karat yellow gold with a retail price of 22,000 euros. When the council president saw the watch and inquired about its lifespan, he was said to be dissatisfied with the expensive showpiece and eventually left the shop without opening his wallet.
A press spokesman for the European Council declined to comment on the EU president’s penchant for expensive watches. He said that he is busy with the upcoming G20 summit.
Political scientist Ralph Schallhammer (Webster University), a frequent guest on eXXpressTV, finds this behavior extremely offensive. X (Twitter) he says, “These people are completely out of touch with the reality of life for most Europeans.” He tells European citizens: “Your taxes subsidize a luxury class of mostly useless bureaucrats, while you are told to take the bus, stop taking hot showers and stop eating meat.”
The office of President of the European Council is really expensive for taxpayers. Earlier this year, EU officials agreed to increase their budget from €2 million to €2.5 million next year. The reason for this was an increase in Michel’s travel expenses in the wake of intense international activities following Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Furthermore, according to “The Brussels Times”, the council president has been collecting a gross 32,700 euros per month since 2019. As an official of a European institution, he is also exempt from Belgium’s high income tax.
