There were turbulent scenes at the MotoGP race in Catalonia. Francesco Bagnaia, while in the lead, flew his Ducati into a high arc after turn two. KTM star Brad Binder was then unable to move out of the way in time and the reigning world champion was crushed in the knee area. A crash in turn one had already thrown the five top Ducati riders off the track.
Bagnia himself was conscious after a serious fall. Nevertheless, Spielberg the winner, who had started from pole position, had to be taken by helicopter to hospital. As his team later announced, Bagnaia suffered multiple injuries from the fall, but medical examination revealed no fractures. It’s very possible that the Italian will be back on a motorcycle at the San Marino Grand Prix next weekend.
The cause of the massive fall was teammate and compatriot Enea Bastianini. Then he couldn’t compete. In the end, the racing team did not have a single driver at the restart. Spaniard Aleix Espargaro won. The very next day after his success in the sprint race, he won that too. motogp-In the main race, his compatriot Maverick Vinales gave Aprilia its first double success. There was also a Spanish triple victory thanks to Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing).
Espargaro, the oldest driver in the field at 34, was in second place for most of the time, then tire problems at Vinales cost him the lead. Espargaro’s hometown Granollers is just seven kilometers away along the route. There was even Aprilia’s triple victory in the air, but Martin and Johann Zarco managed to overtake Miguel Oliveira. It was a day to forget for Binder as well, with the KTM driver later retiring on the third lap of the race due to a technical failure. His teammate Jack Miller finished eighth.
After this Francesco Bagnaia expressed his views on social media. The Italian posted a photo from the hospital and wrote: “Today I can only say thank you.” Bagnaia is still 50 points ahead of Martin in the World Championship standings, with Binder in fourth. The San Marino Grand Prix takes place in Misano next weekend.
