Elon Musk’s short messaging service X (formerly Twitter) is planning an explosive change to its privacy policy. Under the new terms, the service will collect and analyze biometric data from its paying premium users in the future, the BBC reports. The exact nature of the data collected was not explained in detail. However, biometric data can also include photos, fingerprints, and even iris scans.
The short messaging service also told the BBC that the premium service wants to enable verification of the user in question by providing an ID and a selfie. Biometric characteristics can also be obtained from the information. X emphasized that this is to make the platform more secure.
In addition, X also plans to collect and analyze data on information such as career history, educational background and special skills. The data will be used to suggest “potential jobs” and provide relevant information to potential employers. The guidelines are expected to come into effect at the end of September.
