Ali Bongo Ondimba was declared the winner of the presidential election last weekend. Bongo got 64.27 percent votes in the voting held on Saturday. Bongo’s biggest rival, Albert Ondo Ossa, received 30.77 percent of the vote. Bongo’s family has ruled the Central African country for 56 years. Ali Bongo Ondimba took over in 2009 from his father Omar Bongo, who ruled from 1967 until his death. Over the weekend, elections were held for the first time at the presidential, parliamentary and municipal levels.
