As an employee of a foreign authority in Germany, you have probably become accustomed to grief, but the aggression of a Cameroonian who attacked the authority in Magdeburg on Monday morning was still shocking: the windows were smashed with metal stands by an angry migrant. Video recordings of the break-in spread quickly. Bad Testimony: The person was not arrested – apparently this clientele has nothing to fear except being deported to Germany. Are government employees fair game?
For the employees of the Magdeburg immigration office the new week started with a setback. At around 10.30 am on Monday morning, an asylum seeker from Cameroon was attacked. Two videos show how the man smashed windows in the authority’s entrance area using excessive force from the stands of a barrier. Many people see the incident but do not intervene.
Before they could harm anyone, the rioters were caught and taken away by the police. however, he remained at large. The Magdeburg Police Station announced that several criminal proceedings had been initiated against him, he was deported and issued a threat warning. The authority remained closed on Tuesday due to the damage. It has reopened since Wednesday through a side entrance, but is functioning only to a limited extent.
The mayor of Magdeburg, Simone Borris (Independent), was shocked and strongly condemned the act.
“The aggression and behavior shocked me. I strongly condemn the behavior of that person. After the incident in March this year, when around 20 people tried to barge into the immigration office, today another border exceeded. The psychological consequences for our employees cannot yet be estimated. Our colleagues carry out their daily workload, which is constantly increasing, under immense pressure. They are responsible for the implementation of relevant laws and regulations and treats our foreign fellow citizens with respect. I would expect the same on the contrary! We reported the crime to the police and banned the person from entering the building.
Ronnie Krug, the deputy for personnel, civil services and order, also reacted with horror and announced that the city would open new talks with police over the next few days about the safety of the building and above all the staff. He criticized the fact that the accused was not arrested by the police, which he sees as a fatal sign.
What could be the reason for such an intense outburst of anger? According to Nias, the man’s asylum application was rejected and he wanted his passport back.
So this was the second attack on the Magdeburg immigration office, and the officials are probably living dangerously these days too. But these are just isolated cases, aren’t they? The rioters are not even arrested, there is no prevention. As a rule, rejected asylum seekers are not deported, are tolerated and continue to receive social benefits. After 18 months, asylum seekers can enjoy so-called analog benefits, which correspond to a citizen’s income – a rejected application for asylum is really no reason to get excited. And respect can hardly be expected from a “plunder country” like Germany…
