Every viewer, even half familiar with Austria’s domestic politics, was surprised by a statement by ORF presenter Susanne Schnabel at the 21st minute of the summer talk with Herbert Kickl (FPO): “OVP is facing investigation. For the first time, a former Chancellor – Sebastian Kurz – is being charged.
This is a clearly refutable false statement on FEI TV – and just days after the fake news scandal with false video from Ukraine: ORF presenter simply changes the country’s political history and accuses former SPO Chancellor Fred Sinowitz forgets the
As is well known, Fred Synowatz was convicted in 1990, then former chancellor, on September 25, 1990 at the Vienna Regional Court for Criminal Cases, number 4 C e VR 8.514/88-87, of the crime of providing false information. Was prosecuted for. Evidence in court according to § 288 para. 1 STGB was found guilty. The Vienna Higher Regional Court, with its decision of 15 April 1991, No. 22 BS 449/90, did not follow up on the appeal raised by Synowatz – the decision became final.
This next blunder by ORF has already drawn heavy criticism on social media platforms. One user wrote- Quote: “Schnabel is lying! Sinowitz was also accused, and not only now… Bad research – bad work = ORF.’
Strictly speaking, even before Sebastian Kurz two former chancellors were accused – for example Bruno Kreisky (SPO) after his term (1970 to 1983): were distinguished as The situation was made worse by the defamation of Simon Wiesenthal, the founder of a research archive on the famous concentration camp survivor and Nazi war criminal in 1989, by several Social Democrats, who was sentenced to a large fine.
Either the ORF moderators and their team have no knowledge of the recent history of the Republic of Austria, or it was intentionally not mentioned – both possibilities that ORF management should comment on this story by Susanne Schnabel.
This year, a court has already ruled that Susanne Schnabel had not presented the legal facts correctly: ORF journalist Susanne Schnabel accused presidential candidate Gerald Grosz, eventually being convicted of defamation. Groz countered that he received a civil judgment for losing the media case. In April this year, ORF was sentenced to pay 5,000 euros in compensation to ex-BZO politician and TV talker Gerald Grosz – the verdict was not final.
