If you want to treat yourself to some sweet refreshment on a hot summer day, you will have to explore your pockets well in Austria. Ice cream is not as expensive in any other EU country as it is here. This was the result of a survey by the European statistics agency Eurostat. Accordingly, in 2022, a liter of ice cream in Austria will cost an average of 7.0 euros. Denmark is only a distant second with 4.4 Euros, followed by Finland with 2.8 Euros. The cheapest way to eat in Germany costs on average 1.9 Euro per litre.
While Germany offers the lowest prices, our neighbor tops the table in terms of ice cream production: 620 million liters were produced there. France is second with 591 million litres, followed by Italy with 571 million litres. Overall, ice cream production in the EU grew by five percent last year compared to 2021, with 250 million liters exported at a value of 930 million euros.
