Police stopped a van filled with 26 Syrian refugees in Styria. The alleged smuggler, a Swedish national of Syrian origin, when a civilian patrol tried to stop the van on the Southern Autobahn (A2) in the Ilz area, pressed the gas and made a risky escape. According to a broadcast broadcast on Tuesday, the police chase, after about 60 kilometers the officers managed to stop through a road barrier.
The 33-year-old driver suspected of smuggling was arrested and put up a massive resistance. He denied the charge of smuggling and admitted only to dangerous travel. By order of the public prosecutor’s office, he was taken to prison.
Twelve adults and 14 minors were among those dragged. He was taken into care and taken to the Spielfeld border management for questioning. He applied for asylum. Police are now trying to trace the route the Syrians used to travel to Austria and the EU region, and they are also looking for evidence of organized crime in the background.
