On Monday, two Russian nuclear bombers were spotted in the North Sea near Dutch airspace and intercepted by the Danish air force. At the same time, two Dutch F-16 fighter jets were also deployed to monitor the situation.
“Two F-16 aircraft of the Air Force took off this morning to intercept two Russian bombers. These flew in the direction of Dutch airspace. According to the Dutch Defense Ministry, the fighter aircraft were used as part of the so-called Quick Reaction Alert (QRA).
“The Dutch F-16s then remained on standby to defend the Dutch area of responsibility. In the meantime, the planes have landed again at Volkel Airport,” the ministry said.
