It’s a new kind of terror – and it can affect anyone: About every four days last year, a passenger was deliberately pushed onto the tracks at a German train station. Most of the suspects are not German citizens – they are often “mentally ill” and are often not considered healthy in court. In such cowardly attacks 57 mostly randomly chosen victims were injured, 13 of them seriously. One died.
On Monday the picture was quoted from an explosives document by the German Federal Police. Shocking finding: Compared to 2019, 28.4 percent more incidents of violence occurred at train stations in 2022. Weapons, especially knives, are used more and more often. “The use of knives and other dangerous items overall represents a growing problem area (2022-2019),” the newspaper quoted the secret report as saying. No less dramatic is the number of sex crimes. Overall, there was an increase of 43 percent. Incidents of rape at stations and in trains also increased by 56.8 per cent.
