Mary-Louise McLaws is being hailed as the epidemiologist who “guided Australia through Covid” – hardly a compliment given the dictatorial restrictions there. He campaigned relentlessly for mass vaccination of the population and for strict measures. In early 2022, a professor at the University of New South Wales and consultant to the WHO was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer: he has now passed away.
In January 2022, McLaws tweeted that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor after experiencing severe headaches. In the past, she had consistently promoted widespread vaccinations, tighter restrictions and a stricter testing regime, but after this stroke of luck, things became much quieter around her.
McLaws lost his battle with cancer on Saturday and passed away at the age of 70. This was announced by her husband Richard Fluke in a statement. Apparently, the good care at Wolper Hospital in Woollahra, which Fluke praised, couldn’t save him.
Mary-Louise McLaws strongly condemned the relatively late introduction of vaccination in Australia and also repeatedly campaigned vigorously for youth vaccination. For example, in August 2021, he criticized the popular easing of lockdown measures until young age groups were adequately vaccinated, and warned of high hospitalization rates – such as in young people from COVID-19. Were at great risk, which has been proven not to be the case. In this context, he spoke of the “sacrifice of youth”.
McLaws always stressed that every vaccination has side effects and the problems with corona vaccines will not go beyond normal levels. After it became clear that the AstraZeneca vaccine increased the risk of blood clots, he insisted the vaccine was still safe — but he hoped adjustments to vaccination recommendations would restore citizens’ confidence in the vaccination program. Will happen and thus the desire to get vaccinated will increase.
Especially with today’s level of knowledge about the harmful effects of mass vaccination and lockdown measures, it seems highly doubtful that the mainstream continues to celebrate McLaws as a heroine because of her corona course. It can be assumed that he himself received several doses of the vaccine – to what extent this played a role in his illness remains open.
