Manuel Ostermann of the German Federal Police Association is clear: “The migration crisis is getting worse, the current figures are alarming.” He refers to data from internal reports of the federal police, which ensure red alert on German borders. According to this, the number of illegal border crossings by migrants in the first half of the year increased by 51 percent to 43,815 compared to the previous year. Police union president Heiko Tegatz warned in “BILD”: “This uncontrolled illegal migration gives rise to other dangers, so terrorists are also smuggled into Germany.”
Uncontrolled Migration? There is also an allegation against Austria hidden here, because: according to the federal police, of the 43,815 illegal immigrants caught, 9,786 came directly from Austria. He traveled across the country and nobody noticed him and hence he was not investigated.
In fact, every rail passenger who has used cross-border trains knows how rarely police officers check. It doesn’t look any better on the freeways either. Illegal immigrants once in the country get free travel to neighboring countries.
Result: domestic asylum numbers are declining, while numbers in neighboring countries are rising. The problem of illegal migration has shifted northward, but remains within the EU itself and ultimately affects every EU citizen. It strikes Germany in the center from all sides.
On the border with Poland, the number of illegal border crossings increased by 143.7 percent to 14,303 in the first half of the year. Illegal entries also rose sharply from the Czech Republic (+48.5%), Switzerland (+201.8%) and Luxembourg (+58.7%).
