Austria Wien has laid a very good base for promotion in the play-offs of the Football Conference League. The Viennese won the first leg of the third qualifying round 2-1 (1-0) at Legia Warsaw on Thursday. Thanks to two goals from Muharem Huskovic (11′, 56′), Austria have all the trumps in their home game next Thursday (7pm). Ernest Mussy prevented a better start with his own goal in the 87th minute.
Huskowiak made his starting XI debut against Lustenau on the weekend following his serious car accident the previous October, also playing as a central striker in Warsaw and scoring the match-winner. In top-scorer style, the 20-year-old took the lead after Dominik Fitz’s cross and made it 2-0 after Manuel Polster’s cross.
Coach Michael Wimmer surprised the line-up. Manfred Fischer, who had played all five games so far, was only on the bench for the time being. Even without a regular captain, the Violets delivered on their promise of being courageous and doing a good job against the ball very well.
