Passers-by alerted the police on Thursday, assuming blood had coagulated from a locker.
Around 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, several people gathered in front of a parcel pick-up station on Holzknechtstrasse in Vienna-Favoriten. Since there was a strong smell of decay coming from one of the compartments and a reddish liquid was also running out of the box, they called the police.
Quirky find
The police arrived shortly thereafter and took samples and fingerprints from the closed locker, according to a report in the daily newspaper.
A short time later, the all-clear: Inside the compartment was spoiled dog food, which consisted of raw meat.
The package must have been in the locker for a while, which apparently resulted in the liquid and the smell of decay.
