There were wild scenes that took place on Halloween night on October 31st on the Linzer Landstrasse. Hundreds of young people rioted, shooting firecrackers and stones. The police came in large numbers. In the end, 189 people were checked for hours and their personal details recorded, including numerous people entitled to asylum and those seeking asylum. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) announced at the time that he would proceed with all severity and withdraw the perpetrators’ asylum status. The “Krone” asked the Ministry of the Interior how things are going and whether there have already been decisions.
