Some people on the internet are serious: there has been a debate about two different movies starting at the same time for almost a year.
It is well known that the scale on which internet debates take place is open-ended. Nevertheless, one is always surprised by what is discussed on social media. For almost a year there has been a constant debate: Can you watch the “Barbie” film and not the film about the developers of the atomic bomb – or are you then superficial and stupid?
The debate arose because both films – “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” – open in the United States on the same day. And because social media rewards meanness.
“Barbie” is probably the most non-“Barbie”-esque “Barbie” film ever made. Directed by Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”, “Ladybird”), who is anything but suspected that her depth of penetration ends with the color pink. The film is being promoted in a very clever way – and should break the “big breasts, small waist” corset of Barbie dolls in many ways.
“Oppenheimer” (directed by Christopher Nolan) deals with the development of the atomic bomb and its first use. It is considered by those who define themselves through their film taste as the more demanding and important film. The films hit US theaters on July 21. Since that became known last year, there has been a debate.
Now, Matt Damon, who plays the head of the Manhattan Project in “Oppenheimer,” has an answer to this argument that might have occurred to someone else: “People are allowed to watch two movies in one weekend,” he said, according to Variety . “Oppenheimer” is “one of them”.
