The Red Cross district office in the Lavant Valley can look back on an eventful year. Numerous employees had come to the VIP area of the Lavanttal Arena to listen to the reports and to be present at the honoring of deserving employees.
“With this activity we are sending a strong signal for solidarity and cohesion in society. Human suffering can only be alleviated through the willingness to do humanitarian work,” says Martin Schifferl, head of the Wolfsberg district office. In the previous year, 523 people in the district worked more than 211,000 hours for the Red Cross. Schifferl: “The 16 emergency vehicles from our district office drove more than 1.5 kilometers in 2022. For helping the population.” That means it has circumnavigated the earth 39 times. Among other things, 35,808 people were transported. Schiffrl: “There were 803 emergency medical services.” Thousands of people were helped Among other things, injured people in 174 traffic accidents were treated. 77 women were taken to the hospital to give birth. Patients were also handed over to the rescue helicopter 89 times. The crisis intervention team was also present on 70 missions, with 335 people receiving care. And that from eleven employees. 39,989 hours were also worked in the field of nursing alone. Because a total of 15,358 affected people are cared for and cared for. But 308 people also took advantage of the call help. Schiffrl: “More than 32,000 portions of food were delivered via the food delivery service. We look after 125 clients on a regular basis.” There are also record numbers for first-aid courses: there were 1625 participants in 123 courses that were offered to the general public. Almost 3,000 people came to the 81 blood drives in the valley. Honors for numerous employees The service badge in gold for 30 years of service went to Sigi Krobath. Adele Dobernig, Emil Ehart and Franz Futtelnig were honored for their 40 years of service. The awarding of a bronze medal of merit for the excellent cooperation with District Governor Georg Fejan should also be emphasized. The well-known Dietmar Töferl was retired after more than 35 years as a professional employee and thus also on a voluntary basis. The Red Cross in the district currently has 384 volunteers, 100 full-time workers and 39 civilian servants.
