Mount Etna has erupted again in Sicily. Catania airport had to be closed because the runway was dirty.
The National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology announced on Sunday that increased activity had been measured in the early hours of the morning. Photos showed how lava and ash came out of the crater on the south-east side. The more than 3,350 meters High Etna has been very active so far this year. In February it erupted regularly and sometimes spectacularly. The falling ash is often a problem for people in the area. In September, the government of Sicily promised the municipalities two million euros in aid for the ash damage.
