The reactions of the ÖVP and FPÖ were unanimous after the results of the SPÖ member survey were announced. Both the liberal general secretary Michael Schnedlitz and his turquoise counterpart, Christian Stocker, saw the same thing as a prolongation of the “chaos days” among the social democrats due to the narrow result.
The management discussion is not over, but is only just getting started, according to Schnedlitz. With the “deep trenches” it cannot be ruled out “that the tugging will continue even after the special party congress.” Schnedlitz also pointed out that the first-place winner was not even supported by 35 percent of the SPÖ members. “Internal turmoil” similar Stocker’s finding: “The member survey revealed the internal turmoil and division of the SPÖ.” A once state-supporting party has fragmented. Stocker also believes that the “navel gazing of the SPÖ” will continue. The Green Secretary General Olga Voglauer first congratulated the SPÖ “on the successful completion of their member survey”. After the vote, the Social Democrats can now return to the negotiating table “and reflect on their former state-supporting role,” she hopes. The future of the party’s personnel has been long enough.
