The body of a 68-year-old man was found in Traisen near Herzogenburg in the St. Pölten district on Sunday morning. Police believe he may have died trying to rescue his dog from the river.
According to police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner, an accident is currently the cause of death. A dead dog was also recovered near the body. The 68-year-old could have died trying to save his four-legged friend. The victim’s clothes were found on the riverbank. Apparently he took them off before attempting to rescue his dog from the river. A first post-mortem examination on Sunday afternoon could not definitively clarify the cause of death. An autopsy was ordered.
