Children in the city of Recklinghausen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia found the body of a 19-year-old woman in the schoolyard of their elementary school on Monday. The identity of the dead and the cause of death are still unclear, said a police spokeswoman on Monday.
Due to her age, the dead woman could not be a student at the school. The students discovered the lifeless woman around 7 a.m. Monday morning, said police spokeswoman Corinna Kutschke. “Sadly one or more school children are said to have found the woman. They thought she was just sleeping,” she said. An emergency doctor was only able to determine her death. Murder commission determined emergency chaplains then took care of the children. Because of the unclear situation, a homicide squad was routinely used. According to the city, classes at the elementary school were canceled on Monday.
