On Tuesday, RB Leipzig wanted to create a big sensation in the second leg of the Champions League. The Red Bulls, with ex-Salzburg coach Marco Rose, drew 1-1 from the favorites in the first leg in front of their home crowd. Manchester City acted as usual with a lot of ball possession. The first excitement came in the 20th minute. Heinrichs touched the ball in the penalty area with his outstretched hand. The video referee stepped in, the official pointed to the penalty spot. Haaland stepped up and was able to confidently convert the penalty kick.
From Leipzig’s point of view, the Norwegian striker made the double strike two minutes later. De Bruyne hit the ball on the crossbar, Haaland dusted it off and gave the guests the next blow in the neck. In added time in the first half, Haaland followed up with his hat trick. Ruben headed to the post earlier, Blaswich was still there. Haidara tried to clear the line but shot the City striker in the process.
In the second half, the spectators at the Etihad Stadium saw the same picture. After 49 minutes, Ilkay Gündogan entered the scorer list and increased to 4:0. Then it was Erling Haaland’s turn again. The Norwegian elemental force rose to the header, Blaswich still fended off. But the Norwegian did not give up and increased the margin to 5:0 (53rd). But the Haaland show continued in the 57th minute. After Leipzig goalkeeper Blaswich had to clear again, the ball fell at the feet of the Norwegian striker. Again the City attacker was correct and marked his fifth hit!
In injury time, Kevin De Bruyne scored the seventh goal for Guardiola’s side. This puts Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Inter Milan also prevailed against Porto. Inter was lucky. In added time in the second half, Porto hit the woodwork twice. In the heated final phase, Porto’s Pepe saw the yellow-red card. In the end, a 0-0 draw in the second leg was enough for promotion.
