He did it! After Stefan Kraft was second on Saturday, it was enough to win on Holmenkollen on Sunday. The man from Salzburg sailed on 130.5 and 131.5 m and won with 266.1 points and 8.3 points ahead of Saturday’s winner Anze Lanisek (SLO) and Poland’s Dawid Kubacki (+8.4). Half-time leader Daniel Tschofenig fell back to fifth place, Manuel Fettner was eleventh after intermediate place five.
“I’m super, super happy, the weekend couldn’t have gone better,” said Kraft in an ORF interview. Tschofenig and he had provided a double lead for the ÖSV after the first round. “Now I’ve got that down once. I said to Tschofi upstairs, we’ll do it now, we’ll get it. We got through one, it was a cool competition to enjoy. I showed the best jumps in the competition – so very cool.”
Kraft had already received a special honor before the start of the Sunday competition. The man from Salzburg was awarded the Holmenkollen Medal for special services to Nordic skiing by Norway’s King Harald V, which has been awarded since 1895. Kraft spoke of a “great honor”.
