He was supposed to be flying a plane full of holidaymakers from Egypt back to the UK – but just before the flight the pilot died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack. An unbelievable shock, not only for the grieving relatives. Because what would have happened if the man had collapsed during the flight?
The Sun reported on Saturday about the pilot, whose name is not known. He flew for British Airways and was supposed to take a plane full of holidaymakers from Cairo to Heathrow. But just before the flight, he collapsed in the crew’s hotel.
He still manages to drag himself from his room into the foyer. There, his colleagues immediately tried to help him – but unfortunately without success.
A source at British Airways told the Sun the incident had “shaken the whole airline” and said it was unimaginable if he had suffered the heart attack at 30,000 feet. Spicy: The man is said to have suffered from health problems in the months before his death – but still flew on.
Airline officials informed the family. The man’s body was brought to the UK on a Boeing 787; the plane had to fly to Egypt specifically for this purpose, because there was no space for his coffin on the plane that the dead man should have flown.
The sudden death of the pilot is another tragedy that has become more frequent in air travel in recent months. While the passengers on the plane in question narrowly escaped disaster, the plight of the man’s family is hard to imagine.
