Soccer star Neymar has had surgery on his right ankle after suffering a serious injury. The 31-year-old Brazilian from Paris Saint-Germain underwent the procedure at Aspetar Hospital in Doha on Friday, which the club said went well. “The player is now following a rest and treatment protocol,” Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement on Friday night.
Neymar, who already missed the Champions League second leg against FC Bayern in Munich (0:2) due to injury, will miss the French champions for several months. Earlier in the week, PSG announced that the injury will sideline the Brazil international for the remainder of the season.
The ligament surgery was necessary because the Brazilian’s right ankle had suffered multiple injuries in recent years. After the recent injury in the league game against Lille (4-3), the club’s medical staff had advised an operation to reduce the risk of further setbacks.
