It is a fascinating world into which Univ.-Prof. for psychology and expert for psychoneuroimmunology, DDr. Christian Schubert, allowed an insight in this conversation. Since the end of February we have been looking for a high-quality interlocutor on the subject of “resistance to bullying” and “harmful side effects of psychotropic drugs”. But this interview is about much more – because people who have suffered physical damage can also be mentally injured – and vice versa. But it is also the field of research that is popularly known as “faith moves mountains”.
First of all, anyone who is as fascinated by the research field of psychoneuroimmunology as we are in the editorial department by the following video will have the opportunity to learn more next Thursday. The association Life in the Center has Prof. DDr. Schubert invited to an information and discussion event in the Stadthalle Wels: March 16, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., for reservations at [email protected] is requested.
First, Christian Schubert explains the psychological specialty of psychoneuroimmunology. The point is that the psyche has a significant influence on bodily functions and human health – and vice versa. The idea is not new – modern scientific methods have been used since 1974 at the latest. In that year Robert Ader found out that the immune system works together with the central nervous system. Both systems use messenger substances to influence the other. Mental and psychotherapeutic processes affect organic bodily functions.
Our interview focuses on the tragic fate of the popular biologist Clemens Arvay, who was also personally acquainted with Schubert. Together with him he published a video on psychoneuroimmunology. He refuses to attribute the alleged suicide solely to the insults during the Corona period. Such events would always have a whole mixture of causes, including personal life history and personal health. Then there are the insults mentioned, but also the apparently tragic end of the relationship in the time before his death.
Really many of our readers – more than ever before – have written to us, they suspect that psychotropic drugs could also have been involved in Clemens’ death. Accordingly, we also put this question to the experienced psychologist – knowing full well that his specialty is not psychiatry, which actually deals with medication for mental problems. Nevertheless, he patiently lets us share in his thoughts on the subject – and confirms that many drugs also have extremely undesirable side effects.
Above all, we want to know from Schubert how one can protect oneself against hate and bullying on the Internet – and what one can do when everything is getting to be too much for one. What to do when the vortex of thoughts go round in circles and you don’t know any way out? We hear very exciting insights – which also deal with the different life in town and country and even with spirituality. Even if Schubert is not a friend of “Psychology Light”, i.e. shortened and simplified advice, he gives an important tip: No negative state lasts forever, everything passes. “Rain follows sunshine,” explains Florian Machl at the end.
